After a year from the launch of Galaxy S7, Samsung releases its Galaxy S8. The phone display is 5.8 inches with screen resolutions of 1440 x 2960 pixels and approximately 570PPI pixel density).
The touchscreen display is made of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 technology and super AMOLED. The touchscreen is multi-touch capable, with an Always-on application when the phone is in a standby mode. Just like other Galaxy S Series, the display is almost edgeless. The screen is almost 86% of its total body.
The processor chipset is Exynos 8895 Octa-Core for S8 sold in EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) region or a Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 for models sold in the US region.
Despite the two different processor makers, Europe models and U.S. models are the same in performance, design, and functionality. Perhaps, the difference lies on network connectivity and available applications due to international standards and restrictions.
In most countries, S8 Edge is single SIM. In other regions, dual SIM slot variants are available. For dual SIM versions, both slots require a nano-SIM. Both slots are capable of 4G connections, although in some countries LTE connections may not be available.
Galaxy S8 is IP68 certified, which means it is waterproof and water-resistant of up to 1.5 meters underwater for about 30 minutes. However, the phone is not resistant to salt water damage since its parts are not made to resist saline water environment.
The back camera is 12MP with flash for still images and 9MP for video recording. The front camera is 8MP. Both cameras are capable of capturing HDR (high dynamic range) images.
Other functionalities include WiFI, GPS, NFC, sensors such as iris and finger scanners, USB-C and Bluetooth 5.0. Miscellaneous features are an SAR value of 0.32W/kg to 1.27W/kg (Europe), and a non-removable battery of 3000mAh capacity with up to 20H talk time.
